“Graffiti is an unwelcome sight in many Chicago neighborhoods” (Martinez ,2013). That is how the second point of view sees my graffiti, as a burden that appears in the streets of such a beautiful city. In Chicago like in many other states there is the zero-tolerance policy that is very self-explanatory, the city’s just don’t appreciate or tolerate the presence of graffiti. These people believe that graffiti doesn’t fit the cookie cutter idea of a city. In their view everyone that does graffiti are criminals, thugs and gang bangers. They believe that graffiti is a crime hat should be punished with tickets, court appearances, jail time and community service. These people want all the walls, phone booths, billboards, busses, trains, and anything else that graffiti can possibly embellish to be plain and boring. The color that they originally were, is the color that they should stay. “It’s very detrimental to a neighborhood. You know, businesses don’t want to be there. People don’t want to live there” (Martinez ,2013). People see graffiti as something that can only destroy and make the community look like a mess. They believe that presence of graffiti can only bring property prices down and can only make cities look hideous and is a representation of the type of people that live in the community. Some Chicagoans point of view on this subject is that all graffiti should be removed from any areas of or around the city, they believe that the graffiti downtown pushes the tourist away because it isn’t a positive asset for Chicago.
