This point of view is the legalization, appreciation, and the conservation of graffiti. These people view graffiti as the most raw and skillful form of art. The preservation of places such as 5pointz in NYC, the Walls of Grace and the Damen Factory in Chicago , and Venice beach in California. They view graffiti as something worth as much as the pieces that hang in museums and art galleries all over the world. They believe graffiti is a way in which to beautify the living conditions in cities instead of having the city dipped in boring brown paint. They believe that graffiti is something that should be preserved for future generations to be able to see and to enjoy as well.
In New York there was this building called 5pointz that was a free space for artist to go and cover with their artwork. This building was covered with more than 150 artists work, from New York City and from all over the world. It turns out that the owner of the building was planning on destroying it in order to build luxurious condos, before destroying it though he hired people to go and mute the whole building with white paint. New Yorkers and graffiti fanatics were infuriated by the decision to tear down the building but more infuriated by the fact that the art of hundreds of artist was being covered and destroyed due to the gentrification.
Carving on the walls done by ancient civilizations are highly treasured now, we have to be able to see graffiti as the same concept. Imagine if someone would have gone in those caves and spread concrete over them, we would be missing a big part of history, that’s basically what a buff is doing.
