To me social justice is once everybody’s basic needs are met, where no one is hungry and or thirsty. Social Justice is when everyone in the community is informed about the injustices happening in the community and are able to unite and fight to better their community. Where everyone is able to pursue higher education or just education in general. Social Justice is to be able to incorporate what is being taught in schools to fight for equality. Social justice is being able to accept people’s values and beliefs and be able to overlook their differences for the better of the community and for the future generations.
They say that ignorance is bliss but in all honesty ignorance is what holds people from achieving social justice. The thought that something as natural as skin color can hold people back or give unearned stereotypes to all the people from a culture is illogical. The lack of financial support and people in power is a major obstacle. If we do not have people like us, who grew up in the community and know how things are, fighting for our communities than how do we expect things to change? No one cares more about our communities than us, therefore we need to have people in power to actually see the changes. You have to get in the system, to be able to work from within to change the system.
To me struggle looks like people from the community and the youth trying to achieve unity and pursuing higher education and gaining knowledge. To me struggle is any first generation students, stepping onto prestigious college campuses and not forgetting their roots or why they are there in the first place. Struggle is being able to come back to the community that you grew up in and to be able to open the eyes of the community members to all the injustices happening in the educational system and in the overall community. Struggle is being able to unify the community for a mutual reason, which is for the future of the community and for the youth.
